South Park: The “Pissed off and Angry Party”

This sounds pretty absurd since our name is TV Fiends and we are committed to watching almost anything that is on television but we have never really sat down and watched a full episode of South Park. On the surface South Park appeared to be immature comedy created for foul mouthed individuals. Even though we generally like those types of comedies for some reason we decided to avoid South Park like the plague. It is especially ironic that we avoided South Park considering:

  1. All the trash television we watch, including almost every reality show on the planet.
  2. The reason we stumbled upon South Park last night was because we were watching Workaholics, a show that we’ve called a low-brow comedy.

What we learned last night is that you cannot judge a book by it’s cover. We did not realize that South Park had mastered the of art satire until we watched last night’s episode and now that we came to that realization we are hooked on the series.

Last night South Park took on the Tea Party, a party that is best described as a faction of the Republican party which is devoted to reducing government spending, the national debt and the deficit, opposing taxes and committed, in theory, to an originalist interpretation of the Constitution of the United States.

The episode, did not go full force at the Tea Party instead it introduced a character that was clearly designed to be a member of the Tea Party, said that he and a group of other males had small penises and then had them all form their own party, the “Pissed off and angry” party. But the underlying tone of the episode seemed to be that a group of people, dissatisfied with the way things were being handled, broke off from the majority and formed their own party, which seems to imply that the group was designed to mock the tea party, which was formed as a result of similar circumstances.

South Park’s representation of members of the Tea party and the “Pissed off and angry” party, which was an obvious satirical representation of the Tea Party, was a gross exaggeration but that did not stop us from finding the skit involving the “Pissed off and angry” party to be hilarious. We almost died in a fit of laughter when the Tea Party discovered that “Fed Ex” was not owned by the federal government.

We know we are late to the bandwagon but after seeing last night’s episode we have to say we are kind of feeling of South Park. Is it too late to get a “oh my god, they killed Kenny” T-shirt? Are they out of style now? Oh, ok maybe we should just get a “RELAX” t-shirt instead.
